"Moving" Foward...

It is no surprise that the Kinect was a huge hit, especially with the recent holiday season just behind us. But who knew that we would find so many uses for this device, as usual, there is always the cool user hacks and modifications whenever a new gadget is released but utilizing it's motion technology to drive motion capture data is a milestone for all cg artists and film makers both professional
and amateur. The average cost of a professional mocap studio is far beyond reach for the most of us but at a reasonable $149.99, this powerful tech is within grasp. To makes matters much more exciting, Microsoft has confirmed a special iteration of the device designed and geared specifically for developers for use on windows based machines, rather than the Xbox 360. Yorkage Studios has released a video on their youtube channel displaying a nice work flow in Autodesk's Motion Builder, check it out here.
